Regulations

The international contest «WorldVision Music Contest – Composers» is aimed to foster the development of creativity among composers worldwide, enhancement of their proficiency, and wide popularization of classical music. This Provision establishes the order of running the Contest, requirements to participants, winning criteria and is intact until all the contest events are completed.

1.The Contest founder and organizer

2. Partners

The Contest in its different spheres is supported by the partners of Classic@Home platform.

3. The Contest goals and objectives

  • Popularization of classical music of different genres and styles
  • Finding talented composers and supporting them
  • Setting up a platform for people’s choice and a possibility to incentivise a contest participant through donations on the part of the listeners/audience
  • Promotion of an online format in music

4. Nomination

The Contest is held in the nomination “The Art of Composition”

5. Age categories

The composers must be over 18 years of age to take part in the Contest, from any country and of any nationality.

6. The Contest organization structure

  • The Organizing Committee (hereinafter – Organizing Committee) provides  organizational support of the Contest events;
  • The Selection Committee makes evaluation of the documents, moderation of applications, selection of materials sent by the Contest participants;
  • The Jury determines the best works, ensuring equality and respect for the rights of all participants.

The members of the Organizing Committee, Selection Committee and the Jury shall be approved by the Contest Organizers.

7. Rights and responsibilities of the Contest Organizing Committee

7.1. The Organizing Committee retains all the rights for recording and transmission of all the contest auditions and concerts in mass media, distribution of photo, audio and video materials for covering and promoting the Contest without paying author’s royalty, but with indication of the authorship. The Organizing Committee also has the exclusive right to sign agreements (contracts) with other parties for recording and selling the above-mentioned materials (photo, cine, video and audio products).

7.2. The Organizing Committee has the right to use the contest works in the release of a compilation album, other products while retaining the participant’s authorship.

7.3. The Organizing Committee provides conditions for the work of the Jury.

7.4. The Organizing Committee arranges planning of the Contest events, the Contest opening and summarizing of its results.

7.5. The Organizing committee provides prizes and undertakes to make the awarding within the limits of the prize fund.

7.6. The Organizing Committee has the right to amend the procedure, timing and conditions of the Contest for the purposes of improving its quality, as well as due to unforeseen circumstances.

7.7. The Contest Organizing Committee has the right to reject an application which does not comply with the Contest Provision.

8. Rights and responsibilities of the Selection Committee

8.1. The Selection Committee has the right to make a qualifying decision about rejecting or accepting a participant’s application, guided by the Contest Provision, international laws and regulations as well as esthetic, moral and social norms, with a notification to the Contest participant.

8.2. The Selection Committee may amend the materials submitted by a Contest participant guided by an expert opinion of all the committee members and pursuant to the Contest Provision, international laws and regulations as well as esthetic, moral and social norms, with a notification to the Contest participant.

8.3. The decision of the Selection Committee is final and is not subject to reconsideration.

9. Rights and responsibilities of the Jury, system of evaluation

9.1. The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to reconsideration.

9.2. For Rounds I, II, and III the jury is the audience. The audience makes the decision of allocating the winning places between the Contest participants by way of voting on the Contest website, where 1 vote equals 1 point. The voting in Rounds I and II is free. The audience voting in Round III is fee-based.

9.3. The form of voting is by secret ballot. The Round IV Jury evaluates the Contest works and decides the Contest winners and prize-winners by voting. The final score is defined by adding the points given by the Jury members ranging from 0 to 100 points from each jury member. The audience can also take part in the Contest Round IV voting with the system where 1 vote = 1 point. The audience voting in Round IV is on a paid basis.

9.4. The form of voting is by secret ballot. The Round IV Jury evaluates the Contest works and decides the Contest winners and prize-winners by voting. The final score is defined by adding the points given by the Jury members ranging from 0 to 100 points from each jury member. The audience can also take part in the Contest Round IV voting with the system where 1 vote = 1 point. The audience voting in Round IV is on a paid basis.

9.5. To be recognized winners and prize-winners, the works should gain maximum score:

  • In Round I – total of the audience votes
  • In Round II – total of the audience votes
  • In Round III – total of the audience votes
  • In Round IV – total of the points given by the Jury and the audience votes.

9.6. In case of equal quantity of votes or other disputable situation the decision is made in favor of the participant who gained more donations with the same number of votes. The decisions of the Contest Selection Committee, Jury, Organizing Committee are final and are not subject to reconsideration.

9.7. The Jury members have the right not to adjudge all the awards, to share the awards between participants (in such case an award will be also shared between participants in accordance with the amount specified in the Rules), give special prizes and certificates.

10. Timeline of the Contest

Round I (Regional)

01.06.2021 – 20.09.2021 – Accepting applications and Contest compositions for the participation in Round I. The audience can vote starting from 20.09.2021.
28.09.2021 – 04.10.2021 – Vote counting, publication of the list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest.

Round II (National)

05.10.2021 – 16.11.2021  –  Accepting Contest compositions for the participation in Round II. The audience can vote starting from 16.11.2021.

23.11.2021 – 30.11.2021 –  Vote counting, publication of the list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest.

Round III (Semifinals)

01.12.2021 – 18.01.2022  –  Accepting Contest compositions for the participation in Round III.
15.02.2022 – 15.03.2022  –  Audience voting.
16.03.2022 – 19.05.2022  –  Vote counting
20.05.2022 – Publication of the list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest.

Round IV (Finals)

15.08.2023 – 30.09.2023 – Jury voting for the participants’ pieces which reached the Finals.
01.10.2023 – Posting of the Jury voting results.

11. The Contest procedure

By results of Round I: up to 3 representatives of each of the presented regions will be selected to move to the next stage of the Contest.
The list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest will be posted on the Contest website (active link).
Voting: The Contest Round I winners are decided by the number of votes from the audience/viewers (viewers voting).

By results of Round II: 1 representative of each of the participating countries will be chosen to move to the next stage of the Contest.
The list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest will be posted on the Contest website (active link).
Voting: The Contest Round II winners are decided by the number of votes from the audience/viewers (viewers voting).
Support: The Contest Organizing Committee at its own expense arranges paid promotion of the Contest works of participants in the social media, equally for all participants who reached Round II.

By results of Round III: 3 participants will be selected from the participating countries globally, to move to the next stage of the Contest.
The list of participants who reach the next stage of the Contest will be posted on the Contest website (active link).
Voting: The Contest Round III winners are decided by the number of votes from the audience/viewers (viewers voting).
Support: the Contest Organizing Committee shall arrange for publication of reviews/articles in international music (English language) editions or in mass media, about the pieces and their authors who reached Round III of the Contest.

By results of Round IV: decision will be made on the Contest participants who took prize-winning places – 1st award, 2nd award and 3rd award. The list of the compositions and their authors who took award-winning places will be posted on the Contest website.

12. Participant registration procedure

12.1. To take part in the Contest, within the term set by the Provision one should do the following:

  • Fill out the application form. Once the form is submitted, the Participant’s Account is created automatically on the website.
  • Upload to the Participant’s Account a document verifying the Participant's identity and age (photo or color scan of the document).
  • Upload to the Participant’s Account a photo of the Participant (an artistic photo with a resolution of at least 1200x800 pixels).
  • Upload to the Participant’s Account the contest composition as a PDF file, as well as a video (recommended) or audio (along with a cover image) file.
  • Add to the Participant’s Account a biography in English, of the size not exceeding 1500 characters.

12.2. Once uploaded to the Participant’s Account, submitted materials go through moderation and the Selection Committee.

12.3. When all the stages of moderation and selection are passed, a Participant receives a notification to the Account on the Contest website, and also to the e-mail provided earlier, on the approval or rejection of their application.

12.4. Approved application will be published on the Contest website once the Participant has paid a participation fee.

12.5. A declined application cannot be published on the Contest website. The Organizing Committee and Selection Committee can offer to the Participant to make adjustments to submitted materials to successfully post the contest work on the Contest website and participate in the Contest.

12.6. Payment of participation fee shall be made online in the Participant’s Account after the materials provided by the Candidate for participation receive an approval from the Committee, but not later than on the last day of submission, i.e. September 20, 2021.
The participation fee is 70 EUR if paid before August 15, 2021 (“Early bird” price), or 100 EUR (regular price) if paid between August 16, 2021 and September 20, 2021.

12.7. Each Participant has the right to collect votes and donations from the users by way of applying advertisement tools, including those offered by the platform, to inform his/her community about his/her participation in the Contest.

12.8. In case of reaching the next Round a Participant incurs no additional expenses.
12.9. In case of having difficult financial circumstances each Participant has the right no later than until September 1, 2021, to write an address in a free form to the Contest Organizing Committee for assisting in provision of sponsorship aid from the Contest partners for partial payment of the participation fee. The Contest Organizing Committee and the team of Classiс@Home do not guarantee provision of sponsorship aid partially covering the participation fee of the Candidate for participation.

12.10. After completion of their participation in the Contest a Participant (or his/her lawful representative) has the right to manage the money received to the account in the Participant’s Account at their own discretion in accordance with the User Agreement.

12.11. Names of contestants whose applications were selected will be shown in the list of participants on the website, and also their videos will be posted in the relevant section of the website.

13. Voting and donations

13.1. Every active website user and the Contest viewer must get registered on the website in order to receive an opportunity to take part in voting, leave comments, participate in discussions and make money donations to contestants.

13.2. Every active website user and the Contest viewer has the right to vote for a Participant of their preference at each stage of the Contest (one vote for one Contestant at one stage), while there is no restriction as to the number of Participants a registered user can vote for.

13.3. Every active website user and the Contest viewer can make a voluntary monetary donation to one or several contestants (the amount and quantity of donations are not limited). All donations will be transferred to the corresponding Participant´s Accounts.

13.4. By way of voting and donations every active web site user and the Contest viewer influences the voting process and reaching the next round by the Contest Participants.

13.5. The audience has an opportunity to make donations to Participants throughout the entire Contest from the time of materials publication, however the number of votes given for each contest work will be accounted for within the terms set by the Contest Provision and recorded by the Contest Committee.

13.6. When the applications submission is closed in accordance with the Provision, the Jury (audience and the panel of invited experts) evaluate the contest works of the Contest Participants based on the materials submitted by them and in accordance with the rules set by the Provision.

13.7. The decision made by the Jury shall be published on the official website. The Participants who won at every round of the Contest are notified additionally to the e-mail indicated during registration.

13.8. The decision of the Organizing Committee is undisputable. The decisions made by the Jury are final and not subject to reconsideration.

13.9. The Contest Organizing Committee retains the right to investigate the fact of any manipulations in the course of the viewers voting and take measures against the Participant noticed in fraud – from adjustment to the number of gained votes and up to disqualifying from participation. Should that be the case, the participation fee shall not be compensated.

14. Requirements for contest works

14.1. For the Contest Round I one piece must be submitted, of the authorship by the registered Contest Participant, composed in any genre, form, of any duration.

For the Contest Round II one piece must be submitted, never performed before, of the authorship by the registered Contest Participant, written in the format of chamber music-making with free instrumentation with the count of instruments from1 to 12 (solo, duo, trio, quartet etc.) at the choice of the Contest Participant with the duration of not more than 15 minutes.

For the Contest Round III one piece must be submitted, never performed before, of the authorship by the registered Contest Participant, written in any form at the choice of Participant in the format of a piece for symphony orchestra lasting not more than 15-20 minutes.

Quantitative restrictions of the scoring:

  • Strings:
    Violin I - 7 stands, Violin II - 6 stands, Viola - 6 stands, Cello - 5 stands, Contrabass - 4 stands.
  • Woodwinds:
    2 oboes, 2 flutes, 1 flute piccolo, 2 bassoons, 1 contrabassoon, 2 clarinets.
  • Brass instruments:
    4 horns, 3 trombones, 2 trumpets, 1 tuba
  • Percussion:
    any of the below-mentioned instruments for 4 performers can be used:
    4 timpani, snare drum, bigdrum, 4 concert toms, taiko drum, bongos, kongas, tambourine, triangle, castanets, marakas, claves, shaker, ratchet, woodblocks, temple blocks, tenor drum, crotales, tubular bells, cowbellor almglocken, wind chimes, piatti, crash cymbals, suspended cymbal, hi-hat cymbal, ride-cymbal, tam-tam, gong, anvil, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, glockenspiel, drumset
  • 1 harp, 1 piano, 1 E-guitar, 1 E-bass

The author can also use any other instruments of own choosing – folk, ethnic, electronic, as well as music instruments not included in the set-up of a classical symphony orchestra, with prior notification of the Contest Organizing Committee made in a free form in writing.

The author can use samples which can be reproduced with the use of midi-keyboard and any accessible software samplers (Kontakt, etc.). In case of using different software for writing the Contest work, the Participant undertakes to arrange and provide free access to the used software for performers upon request of the Contest Organizing Committee.

For the Contest Round IV the same work has to be submitted, with the authorship by the registered Participant written as a contest work for the Contest Round III.

14.2. The Participant can use any number of instruments at own discretion in any set-up and number at all stages of the Contest, but not exceeding the limitation and format mentioned in the Contest Provision.

14.3. For each of the Contest stages the Participant must provide:

  • a musical score of their contest work in the PDF format
  • a video (recommended) or an audio record of the piece.

14.4. It is not recommended that Participants use for a demo some standard means of reproduction of notation software programs such as sibelius, finale, dorico, musescore etc. The Selecting Committee has the right to refuse a Participant in accepting the application for any stage of the Contest if a video or an audio record does not meet the minimal quality criteria.

14.5. It is recommended to Participants to use the following sampler libraries: NotePerformer, Spitfire Audio, Orchestra Tools, Cinematic Studio (strings, woodwinds, brass), Cinesamples, Vienna Symphonic Library, Best Service, Steinberg Iconica, or any other libraries of a similar quality level.

14.6. In case of difficult financial circumstances the Contest can provide to the Participant on subscription one of (or several) sampler libraries (NotePerformer). To gain access, a Participant must write an address in a free form to the Contest Organizing Committee.

14.7. As an alternative, every Participant can provide for any stage of the Contest an audio/video record of own piece written in conformance with the Contest terms and performed by musicians (live recording). Provision of the music score in accordance with the Contest technical regulations is mandatory.

14.8. The submitted video record must have the quality of at least 720p. The audio work should be submitted in the highest quality accessible and in the following formats: MP3 in MP3/WAV container, or PCM in WAV container, or ААС in MOV container, or FLAC.

14.9. To every contest work a Participant can attach an image upon their own discretion, which will be used to create a video sequence and published on the Contest website.

  • the image must be licensed as Creative Commons Zero, which gives the right for using the image without mentioning the author, or be taken from open sources and be free from copyright.
  • the image, in view of the Participant, can reflect the character or the artistic spirit of the piece, upon discretion of the Participant, or be random.
  • the image must not be in breach with legal rules and regulations set by international laws, contain the scenes of violence, propaganda, advertisement of any brands, incite religious or political hatred, or be a call for unlawful actions.

14.10.  The Contest Organizing committee retains the right not to admit or to change the image provided by the Participant upon its own discretion, giving prior notification to the Contest Participant.

14.11. The Contest works shall be provided in the above-mentioned formats, and also within the terms set hereby.

15. The use of the contest compositions

15.1. The Contest Organizers retain the right to publish Contest materials at their resources as well as at the resources of the Contest information partners in full or in part.

15.2. The Organizers have the right to cut the Contest composition of the Participant to the necessary format, if the audio submitted by the Participant exceeds the duration specified by the Provision.

15.3. In case of publication of the materials sent to the Contest, the Contest organizers have the right to make add-ons of the Contest bumpers (intro and outro).

16. Awards

By the results of Round I: everyone who reaches the next (National) round of the Contest will receive a certificate equivalent to the amount of 300 EUR for attending master courses at Schloss Akademie with any teacher.

By the results of Round II: everyone who reaches the next (Semifinals) round of the Contest will receive a certificate equivalent to the amount of 600 EUR for attending master courses at Schloss Akademie with any teacher.

By the results of Round IV:

1st place: 10,000 EUR

2nd place: 5,000 EUR

3rd place: 3,000 EUR

The Contest Organizing Committee does not exclude a possibility of adjudging awards to the Contest participants by Partners and Sponsors of the Contest, or an extension of the prize fund.

17. Rights and responsibilities of the participant

17.1. The Contest Participant can use collected donations to pay for recording and to make payment to performers at any stage of the Contest.

17.2. A Participant can use collected donations at own discretion only after all the Contest events are completed, except for the cases specified in the Contest Provision (payment for the record and musicians’ royalty for any stage of the Contest, payment of the Contest participation fee).

17.3. A Participant can refuse from participation in the contest at any stage of the Contest.  Refusal from participation shall be executed in writing. The participation fee (if paid) is not compensated in such a case. All the other money paid will be returned to the Participant/Candidate for participation in accordance with the rules.

17.4. Submission by a Participant of a contest work in accordance with this Provision is construed as full and unconditional consent of the Participant with the Contest terms.

17.5. In case of demands, claims raised and lawsuits started by third parties, including owners of copyright and neighboring rights for the work submitted to the Contest, the Participant undertakes to resolve them on their own behalf and at their own expense.

17.6. By giving consent for participation in the Contest, every Participant provides the right to the Organizing committee to use the materials submitted to the Contest, on the discretion of the Organizing Committee, on a free of charge basis.
