Biography
Allan X. Chen is a passionate award-winning composer constantly seeking to challenge his capabilities. His curiosity for learning has steered him through various genres & fulfilling collaborations with the likes of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) & the JACK Quartet, amongst many others. Allan’s music has been performed across the globe, at venues & festivals including the Cheltenham International (Int.) Music Festival & the Bowdoin Int. Music Festival. In 2020, Allan’s piece for orchestra, Semblance, was premiered by the RSNO under the baton of Teddy Abrams in a series of concerts across Scotland — Caird Hall, Usher Hall, & the Royal Concert Hall Glasgow. Allan is also the recipient of the Elgar Memorial Prize for Composition & winner of the Bowdoin Int. Music Festival Student Composition Competition.
With a love for collaboration, Allan also works with film makers & builds art installations. Various films he has scored have been featured in the LA Int. Shorts Festival, Nantucket Int. Film Festival, & the GreyJoy Film Festival. His art installations, which explore interactive space & music, have been exhibited at the Arthill Gallery in London & the Light Art Festival in South Africa.
Allan currently holds a BMus from Boston University, & an MMus from the Royal College of Music.
