Biography
Fernando Morais was born in Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, on February 14Th, 1966. He began his advanced musical studies with Roberto Farias. Morais received his bachelor's degree in music from the Mozarteum University in São Paulo, Brazil. In 1992 he won a scholarship from the Vitae Foundation to study for two years at the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, where he worked with David Jolley(horn) and Bert Lucarelli(chamber music).
In 2000 he won the position of hornist in the National Theater Symphony Orchestra in Brasília, Brazil, and in 2001 he was appointed horn teacher at the Brasilia Music School. While in Brasilia he started his career as a composer, and in 2003 he won the 1st place at the "Concurso NAcional de Composição Claudio Santoro at the University of Brasilia (UnB). Many of his works have been played around the world.
In 2009/2010, he received an award the first prize in the 1º Concurso Latino americano de composição para bandas sinfônicas(Colombia).
In 2012, MusiMed published a new method in Brazil called " Pequenos Estudos Brasileiros" for wind instruments and the NAtional Theater Symphony Orchestra held the world premiere of the first Brazilian Horn Concerto.
Currently his work catalog has over eighty compositions, some of then being marketed by publisheres such as Danza Music Latin America(San Jose), Euphonium.com Publications (USA), International Horn Society(IHS/USA) and Publisher MusiMed (Brazil).
