Antonio Giacometti

Biography
Born in Brescia (1957), he graduated in composition at the Milan Conservatory, while pursuing an education in the Humanities and pedagogy.
Since 1979, a lot of his compositions won prizes and mentions in thirty national and international competitions.
Giacometti, who is also interested in musical analysis, especially in the pedagogical implications of the discipline for musical composition, was in 1989 one of the founding members of the “Società Italiana di Analisi Musicale” (SidAM).
In 1997 and 2003 Ricordi and Curci editions has published his Italian translations of Zsolt Gardonyi’s Kontrapunkt, and H. Owen’s, Counterpoint from Josquin to Strawinskj.
In 1998, “Rugginenti” has published his book on first level composition didactics: Linguaggi e forme per inventare and, in 2017, a methodologic and practical guide for realizing young person's chamber and orchestral groups "Musica d'insieme. Anche senza il leggìo".
In 2013 was published the cross-over CD "Shakti, the great Mother". In 2017, Libere Edizioni published a book-interview by the musicologist Carlo Bianchi Crossing Music and in 2018 Da Vinci Label realized a CD with all his music for solo guitar, played by the young italian guitar virtuoso Edoardo Dadone.
In December 2019, Giacometti was in Manaus (Amazonia) for the premiére of a new Cantata Jungle Jazz: uma Sinfonia amazônica for the voice of Karine Aguiar, a work of sensibilization, concerning the theme of deforestation in Brazil. The performance will be realized in “Teatro Amazonas.
Giacometti’s compositions are actually published by Rugginenti, Ricordi, Suvini-Zerboni, Bérben, EDI-PAN, Editions Musicales Delatour, Agenda edizioni musicali, AlexanderStreet Press, RAI.com.
Giacometti is actually teacher in composition and during the period 2013-2019 has been Director of the Modena Institute for High Level Music Studies “Orazio Vecchi – Antonio Tonelli”.
