Biography
Rafael Díaz S. (Born in Chile. 1962)
Composer and ethnomusicologist. He studied Compositión at the University of Chile. After that, He obtained a master degree in Composition at the Catholic University of America from Washington D.C. and a Doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the University Autónoma de Madrid with research support of the Ethnologische Museum from Berlin.
He studied composition with Cirilo Vila, in Chile, and George Crumb, in USA.
As a composer, he has written around of seventy compositions for different ensembles, from solo instrument to symphonic format. Most of the pieces are related to the aboriginal music from Chilean Pre-Columbian tribes. As a researcher, he has published several books and papers devoted to the musical performance from South American aboriginal culture .
